N.P. Dodge Memorial Park

N.P. Dodge Memorial Park is an Omaha city park located at 11001 John J Pershing . It is 445.0 acres in size. It contains a playground, four ball fields, eight soccer fields, horseshoe are, two tennis courts, fishing, boating, waterskiing, walking trails/paths, historical monuments, camping, lagoon, picnic and shelter area, restrooms, pavilion and open space. The campground offers: forty-six R.V. pads, running water, electrical hook-ups (fee will be charged), showers, tent camping and free dump service for registered campers. N.P. Dodge Park was donated to the City in 1930 by the Dodge family, well known for their real estate business. The 146 acres originally donated eventually became over 450 due to river accretion and the purchase of adjoining property. A portion of the land donated is located west of Pershing Drive and was named “Hummel Park” in tribute to J. B. Hummel, a friend of N. P. Dodge and long time superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department.The Dodge family has had a history in Omaha. It extends from 1855 when Sylvanus Dodge and his wife, Julia Phillips Dodge, crossed the Missouri River at Florence and homesteaded 25 miles west of the Elkhorn River.
